Being established in 1976, Jennifer Muller/The Works has achieved an exceptional track record - touring to 38 countries on 4 continents and 30 states in the US and producing 20 NYC Seasons at the Joyce, New Victory, City Center and Roundabout Theaters and the Kaye Playhouse - has established the company as a dynamic international presence. The company has premiered over 90 pieces, working with a wide variety of artistic collaborators such as Yoko Ono, Keith Haring and Keith Jarrett.
The dancers of the company are renowned both for their technical virtuosity and expressive capability. Ms. Muller draws out of her company members' energy, athleticism, passion and grace - a process that reveals each performer as a distinct individual without compromising the integrity of a coherent ensemble.
In December 2008, the Beijing premiere of Jennifer Muller / The Works will be launched on the stage of National Centre for the Performing Arts, as part of the 6th Beijing International Theatre & Dance Festival. Human & Nature and Passion & Promise have covered 6 dance pieces, which are all created in the 21st Century. In addition, audience will enjoy the world premiere of one particular dance, Aria, showcasing the exploration of young generations of modern dancers in the U. S.
JENNIFER MULLER
Jennifer Muller's work has been characterized as "sensual," "inspired," "luminous," "impassioned," "bravura pieces." Recognized as a "seminal influence on dance/theater," she is known for her expressive movement style, unusual stage environments and the radical incorporation of spoken dialogue in dance performance. Ms. Muller's choreography has been commissioned by 24 international repertory companies including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Nederlands Dans Theater, NDT 3, Ballet Lyon, Ballet Contemporaneo Argentina, Tanz-Forum K?ln, Bat Dor, Israel and Tian's ten-city tour of China. Her work for theater includes such venues as The Public Theater, Second Stage, New York Stage and Film and the Metropolitan Opera.
Ms. Muller is highly respected in her field. She was recently honored by being chosen as a founding member of the World Arts Council, one of 30 artists in six disciplines alongside such creative luminaries as Placido Domingo, Toyo Ito, Santiago Calatrava, Sydney Pollack, Irene Papas and Ian Herbert. As Artistic Director of The Works, her passion and tireless creative energy drive the vision of creating a wider acceptance for dance and, thereby, its relevance in society. The company's creative work combines spirited, virtuostic dance that engages audiences with a dance/theater, multi-discipline approach that is accessible and communicates directly to audiences about issues that touch their lives.
