Music drama Stars may draw people's attention by putting its eye on urban life with which the public are familiar and is involved in several sorts of dance and singing, such as jazz dance, tae-bo dance, and male and female duet. By putting some modern elements into the drama, including skyscraper, beauty contest and policeman in mufti, it reflects the diverse aspects of daily life. As the playwright Xu Yan once mentioned, the usage of modern elements can be transplanted to other plays, relating to big cities in China, like Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. Moreover, the story is developed in a well-organized structure, starting from the girl's first arrival to a big city, to falling in love with a boy and the lovers' sorrowful departure.
Synopsis
A little girl Yueyue starts her journey in the hopes of finding her older sister Ruhua, who has lost home for half a year without any news. While looking for her sister, she meets a policeman named Yangguang by chance and falls in love with him. With the broker's persuasive eloquence, Yueyue takes part in a beauty contest and finally wins the competition. More unexpectedly, her boyfriend, Yangguang is sent on a mission of drug traffic that her sister has been suspected of attending, while Yueyue is celebrating the victory.
Eventually, Ruhua is murdered by the confederate for her identity divulging and the story ends up with the Yangguang's death in the line of duty.
